Scheme aims

Initiator Grants are intended to provide seed funding to promote joint projects which will expand academic and research linkages between UQ and Exeter, and build a pipeline of research teams and collaborations positioned for larger funding schemes.

The specific aims include:

  • Supporting enabling activities that bring together academic staff with excellent and complementary expertise and capability.
  • Addressing research questions with potential for high impact that could not be as effectively carried out by a partner on its own.
  • Facilitating exploration of novel research concepts to a point at which significant external funding can be sought.
  • Facilitating the development of new, shared educational provision leading to significant curriculum enhancement and student experience.
  • Promoting and facilitating groundbreaking interdisciplinary research.
  • Demonstrating clearly the added value of the QUEX Institute.

Supported initiatives

In 2018 applications will primarily be sought from the three current themes of the partnership:

  • Healthy Ageing
  • Physical Activity and Nutrition
  • Environmental Sustainability

However, some funding will also be allocated for applications in other areas to support expansion of the partnership to additional discipline areas/themes.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the relevant QUEX Theme Lead at their home institution to discuss the submission and its alignment with the partnership theme.
