After the successful launch of the QUEX PhD studentship program, in order to recruit for 2019, we are seeking research project proposals from sets of UQ/Exeter academic staff who can demonstrate a capacity to work collaboratively. Proposals need to fit into one of the initial three interdisciplinary themes of the QUEX partnership: Healthy Ageing; Physical Activity and Nutrition; and Environmental Sustainability.

The QUEX programme aims to recruit the very best students, to work across the University of Exeter and UQ, towards joint degrees. The scheme pays full fees and a stipend, as well as a generous training grant and travel fund. We will hold an annual symposium for students and supervisors, offer special research training opportunities, and encourage supervisors and students to form a bridge between the relevant research groups in the two universities. The second cohort will begin their programme in Jan/Feb 2019.

How to apply

Submit the proposal form to UQ Professor Stephan Riek at by 15 March 2018.

Successful projects will be advertised and up to 10 students selected to join the 2019 round.

All PhD studentships include a full PhD stipend, $8500 per annum in travel funds (which must be used to attend the annual QUEX conference), and a $3000 training budget over the life of the PhD.

Selection process

In selecting projects to advertise, our primary concerns will be the strength of proposal and the likelihood of attracting the highest calibre of students. With a view to managing the overall shape and impact of the QUEX partnership, we will also consider the balance between the three themes, the range of supervisory involvement, and the development of new areas of collaboration.

If you would like to contact the relevant QUEX Theme Lead at their home institution to discuss the submission and its alignment with the partnership theme you will find their details below.
