Two innovative projects have been awarded a total of US$20,000 in funding through the 2022-23 Emory-UQ Collaborative Partnership Research Grant.
Congratulations to the successful applicants:
- School of Psychology – “Children’s moral reasoning about the environment: A cross-cultural investigation”
This project seeks to expand our knowledge of children’s social cognitive development as it pertains to climate change and the environment more broadly. Two experimental studies will involve more than 500 children in the United States and Australia. The project would clarify when children begin to morally reason about the environment and examine whether and how their moral concerns change. By providing a cross-cultural approach, the research team hopes their findings can shape effective climate-focused interventions and education programs. - School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences – “Simulation Based Learning”
Simulation-based learning (SBL) is an interactive teaching and learning method that allows learners to practise and apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. Despite SBL being a highly effective pedagogical modality, little is known about how to best facilitate learner-centred feedback.
The primary goal of this project is to develop best practice guidelines for feedback processes in SBL by exploring feedback practices from the perspectives of learners, simulated patients, and faculty. This will establish an important research relationship between preeminent universities in the fields of SBL and health education, and lead to multi-site grant applications to implement and evaluate the guidelines. By providing meaningful feedback, the team hopes to help shape future practice and produce work-ready graduates.
The Collaborative Partnership Research Grant fosters the broadening of international research and engagement between Emory University and UQ. Applicants from all schools and disciplines are encouraged to submit funding applications for innovative and sustainable projects built around collaborative research and engagement. The research and engagement activities may take place in any country or region as long as it is done collaboratively.
The next funding round will continue in 2024.
UQ and Emory University recently announced a commitment to scale-up collaboration, with a focus on pandemic preparedness and regional disease prevention. The Brisbane-Atlanta partnership will bring together world-class researchers to accelerate the development of vaccines to help address the world’s critical health challenges.
The partnership builds on more than a decade of collaboration in drug discovery between Emory University, UQ, and QIMR Berghofer through the Queensland Emory Development Alliance, which was in June for a further 10 years.
