On Wednesday, 14 July, the day prior to the ICOC 2021 conference, there will be a workshop for postgraduates and ECRs working on Indonesia-related research. The workshop will comprise 2 sessions:

(1) Postgraduate Information Session (Morning)

This session is open to all conference participants and will be run online. It includes sessions on funding opportunities in the Australian and Indonesian research sector and examples of successful research collaborations between UQ academics and their Indonesian counterparts. Senior academics will share tips with postgraduate students on how to position for collaborative research grants working in teams of Australian and Indonesian scholars.

(2) Postgraduate Mentoring & Project Development Session (Afternoon)

This afternoon session has limited places and is available to successful applicants only (on line and in person). This closed component of the workshop will provide selected participants with an opportunity to present on a major research project proposal. Participants will receive feedback from senior scholars.

To apply to take part in Session 2 (Mentoring & Project Development), you must send:

  • A brief statement (500 words) outlining the personal, academic or professional benefits you hope to gain from participation in this session; and
  • A 2-page project proposal. This proposal should pitch a substantial project (i.e., a 3-year fellowship-sized project, such as an ARC DECRA) that you intend to seek funding for in the next few years. The pitch should include the research aims, significance and innovation, and a brief outline of methods.

This mentoring and project development session is intended for advanced PhD candidates and ECRs. If successful, participants in the closed afternoon session should also prepare a 3-minute verbal pitch. Participants will be put into small groups and paired with a senior scholar in their area.

Applications for the Mentoring and Project Development Session are due by Monday, 12 April. Please email applications to: icoc2021@uq.edu.au. Successful applicants will be notified by Monday, 19 April.
