Both Presidents and Vice-Chancellors of The University of Queensland (UQ) and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), Professor Deborah Terry AO and Professor Lalith Gamage, met virtually to sign an International Cooperation Agreement and Recognition of Prior Learning Agreement on 7 September 2021.
Both UQ and SLIIT students can now benefit from this agreement through the faculties of Engineering, Architecture and IT (EAIT), and Business, Economics and Law (BEL), who will offer 25 per cent of the Global Connect Scholarships to eligible SLIIT students, and BEL articulation pathways respectively, so that students can transfer between universities and receive academic credit for specific subjects.
The first students to benefit from this agreement will commence in May 2022.
The virtual meeting was attended by senior executive and engineering and business faculty staff from both universities. Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Global Engagement and Entrepreneurship, Dr Jessica Gallagher said part of making game-changing graduates is to provide our students with the best opportunities, internationally and at home.
“Meaningful engagement between our student population will provide different and valuable perspectives in our classrooms as well as pave the way for SLIIT students to become ambassadors and advocates of joint-partnerships and education, culture and business around the world,” Dr Gallagher said.
“We look forward to seeing where this exciting new partnership between our universities will take us!”
