Eight collaborative projects have been approved for $125,000 in funding in the 2019 QUEX Initiator Grant Scheme round. The QUEX Initiator Grants Scheme is designed to broaden academic and research collaboration between UQ and the University of Exeter.
A range of cooperative initiatives across the themes of healthy ageing, physical activity and nutrition, and environmental sustainability will be jointly developed and implemented.

- Institute for Molecular Bioscience (UQ) – Biosciences (Exeter): Developing a novel gestalt approach to combat antibiotic resistance.
- Business School (UQ) – Business School (Exeter): Redefining the water industry: Developing a circular business model evaluation tool through design thinking for the water industry.
- School of Earth & Environmental Sciences (UQ) – Engineering (Exeter): AWARE: Adapting Water Abstractions in Rivers for Environmental Sustainability.
- Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology and Centre of Advanced Imaging (UQ) – School of Physics and Astronomy, and the Institute of Biomedical and Clinical Science (Exeter): Development of disease-related ROS detection probes with reactive Raman reporters.
- Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (UQ) – Biosciences (Exeter): Inter-generational impacts of marine plastic debris in a seabird.
- School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (UQ) – Centre for Research in Ageing and Cognitive Health (Exeter): The genetics of ageing and fertility in Coturnix japonica (quail) selection lines.
The QUEX Initiator Grants Scheme is an initiative of the QUEX Institute, a partnership between UQ and the University of Exeter. The partnership is a joint commitment to co-produce research of the highest quality, boost industry and business collaboration, and publish high-level policy reports designed to inform and shape key government initiatives across the globe.
