Chinese Ambassador to Australia visit to UQ

The University of Queensland (UQ) was honoured to host a visit by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Australia on 21 May.
 
His Excellency Mr Zhaoxu MA and his delegation visited the St Lucia campus to discuss UQ’s current partnerships with tier one Chinese universities as well as opportunities to broaden our bilateral activities with these, and other high level, Chinese institutions.
 
The meeting was hosted by UQ’s President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Høj, and UQ attendees included the Senior Vice-President and ProvostProfessor Max Lu, the Vice-President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Monique Skidmore, the Chief Operating Officer Major General Maurie McNarn AO, the Director of the UQ Confucius Institute Professor Ping Chen, as well as seniorstaff from UQ International.
 
UQ maintains a mature relationship with its Chinese partners and has approximately 114 formal research and academic agreements with more than 50 official partners in the country.
 
These partnerships include:
  •  key government bodies, including the China Scholarship Council and Confucius Institute Headquarters
  •  key research institutes, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences
  •  all members of the prestigious C9 League universities
  • corporate partners such as the Baosteel Corporation and Shandong Fangyuan Nonferrous Metals Group.
This visit was coordinated by the UQ Global Engagement’s International Delegations and Events team in conjunction with Protocol Queensland.
